Lara Sahagun started The Boston Hound to outsource her writing in 2020-2021. She used it primarily as a library to store her arguments and comments on the books she read, and it evolved over time as a collection of works, then a publication, with more intent behind its dozens of articles. Lara continues to write at least an article every week for the publication, amassing more than a whopping 150 total articles, 20 of which are rotated around the website every 2-3 weeks to prevent it from crashing.
The news of today, Lara realized, is largely sensationalistic, and reflects a need for immediate information and therefore provides limited analysis of a given subject. Additionally, the news she witnessed was almost entirely event-based: it primarily existed around occurrence and consequently addressed events, not their overarching themes. In 2022, Lara transformed her library of “book recommendations” into a channel for connecting literature (in any form – articles, novels, even comics) to the present world, and drew elements of their philosophies and arguments thereof into her analysis of the environment around her. It was her own view that connecting literature to a theme in today’s climate would serve to calm it with knowledge, and provide a fresh perspective to the issues it may contain… hence, the Boston Hound.

The Boston Hound has been edited internationally (by the same person) and analyzes text from around the world. It’s important for the site to address and cater to international issues and international populations in the hopes of fostering unity and breaking barriers in the media (both literature and news) between different countries and areas.
est. 2021, or late 2020. Going strong in 2023.
The Boston Hound. TBH – To Be Honest, void of false rapportage. Boston, because of the place she so often visited, and The Boston Hound, because it sounded nice, and she’d get to draw a dog with a monocle (the original mascot of the site). She hopes to expand it to be a forum, and encourage viewers to delve into literature through its relevance in current events, and encourage readers to reach beyond a page and apply words, philosophy, and knowledge to their digestion of the news and events around them.
Lara started the site with the help of her mom, and manages it now alone. There may be a couple bugs, and please let us know if that’s the case at thebostonhound@gmail.com. A WordPress creation, it takes a couple of hours every week to maintain and add onto, but it’s “retrospectively gratifying”.
