Lara Sahagun started The Boston Hound to outsource her writing in 2020-2021. She used it primarily as a library to store her arguments and comments on the books she read, and it evolved over time as a collection of works, then a publication, with more intent behind its dozens of articles. Lara continues to write at least an article every week, and when free once a day, for the publication, amassing more than 250 researched articles, 20 of which are rotated around the website every 2-3 weeks to manage site load.
In 2022, Lara transformed her library of “book recommendations” into a channel for connecting literature (in any form – articles, novels, essays, even graphic novels) to the present world, and drew elements of their philosophies and arguments into her analysis of the environment around her. She implemented law, language, and international affairs – her three loves – as she began to write more and more for The Hound. It is her view that connecting learned elements to current events or controversial issues provides them with fresh, less-heard perspectives. Hence, the Boston Hound.
Boston, MA. Winchester, MA. Westwood, MA.
Saint-Cloud, France. Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Beirut, Lebanon. Madrid, Spain.
The Boston Hound has been edited internationally (by the same person) and analyzes texts from around the world. It’s important for the site to address and cater to international issues and international populations in the hopes of fostering unity and breaking barriers in the media (both literature and news) between different countries and geographically rooted ideologies.
est. 2021, or late 2020. Going strong!
The Boston Hound = TBH = To Be Honest. Lara also thought there was a ring to it. She knew the mascot would be a dog before her own puppy, Archie, came into her life, because she wanted to draw a dog with a monocle (in homage to Hercule Poirot, whom she sees as the ultimate logician). She hopes to expand it to be a forum, and encourage viewers not only to delve into literature through its relevance in current events, but to reach beyond the pages and apply words, philosophy, and knowledge to their digestion of the news and events around them.
Lara started the site with the help of her mom, and manages it now independently. There may be a couple bugs, and please let us know if that’s the case at thebostonhound@gmail.com. A WordPress creation, it takes a couple of hours every week to maintain and add onto, but it’s “retrospectively gratifying”.
